The client wanted to provide a ground floor flat for his father and additional bedrooms and bathroom for the rest of the family.  The extension was to a traditional cottage of modest proportions, situated on a south facing slope in the Tamar Valley. The design had to consider the best way to link the two buildings together with an open glass canopy on timber posts. This runs for the length of the building and provides an open space in front of the existing cottage for sitting under, but then becomes the front of the new extension and provides a sun space in the sitting room of the ground floor accommodation.
